WaWa Bell for Boston City Council – District 7

I’m running to represent District 7 on the Boston City Council. I was born and raised in Roxbury, in the Lenox Street Projects. I’m a proud father of three, a descendant of American Freedmen, and someone who has faced — and overcome — real-life challenges.

I know what it means to be counted out. I also know what it means to fight your way forward. After being released from incarceration, I made a conscious decision to dedicate my life to being part of the solution.

A Path Rooted in Purpose

My journey started at the Boston Jobs Coalition, where I saw how powerful community-led advocacy could be. From there, I stepped fully into the work: violence prevention, youth empowerment, and grassroots organizing.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked side by side with the people of this city:

  • As a mentor at Mission Safe

  • As a Streetworker for the City of Boston

  • And now, as a co-founder of the Nubian Square Foundation

I’ve walked with our young people through some of their hardest moments—helping them choose peace over violence, hope over despair, and community over chaos.

Leadership That Listens and Acts

At the Nubian Square Foundation, we’re modeling what community-led development can look like:
-Self-determination
-Cultural pride
-Sustainable investment

We don’t believe in saviors—we believe in the people. Our neighborhoods know what they need. My role is to uplift those voices and make sure they’re heard in every room where decisions are being made.

Why I’m Running

My campaign is grounded in clear priorities:

  • Support for Youth and Seniors
Because every generation deserves protection, opportunity, and a voice.

  • Reparative Justice for American Freedmen
Because justice isn’t justice if it leaves our people behind.

  • Affordable Housing & Pathways to Homeownership
Because staying in Boston shouldn’t feel like survival.

  • Development Without Displacement
Because growth should uplift—not push out—our communities.

But above all, I’m running to bring a voice from the community back into City Hall — a voice that understands struggle, leads with integrity, and stands firmly with the people of District 7.

I didn’t come to this work for a title or for praise. I came because this is my home — and I’ve already been doing the work. Now, I’m ready to do it with the power of the council seat behind me.

To the voters of Roxbury, South End, Fenway, and Dorchester:
I humbly ask for your support, your voice, and your vote.

In solidarity,
— WaWa Bell
